Łaziska: small pond

Łaziska is located in a very swampy area with many small streams and ponds. This is one of them. Later in the year it is full of tadpoles, hoverfly larvae and beetles. A nice place indeed :-) A shame of the the nasty bloodsuckers though.

Łaziska: magda's grandma is living on a small farm in Łaziska. She has some very hungry chickens indeed. Next to this she has a small fruit garden so there is always something to eat for us, too :-)

The grandma of Magda in Łaziska has a veeeery smelly and verry big tomcat called Kobus. He is father of half the kittens in the village :-D

Typical for Poland are the veeeery clean and shiny graceyard with on every grave some plastic flowers.
In Łaziska,and in most other places, Saturday is graveyard-cleaning day. Everybody then goes with a bucket of water and a brush to the graveyard. During the cleaning everybody is talking and gossiping :-)

Łaziska is very close to the Chech border.
A litle outside the village is a small bordercrossing with a small checkpoint. This is not manned anymore. However, in former USSR times there was a lot of smuggling going on between the countries.

Tychy: Paprocane Lake

Just south of Tychy is Paprocane Lake. Throughout the year it is a nice place to visit. the surroundings are very humid and full with insect life. Magda did here master-thesis for biology here: investigating the populations of hoverflies around the lake.

In early spring I made a first cycletour. The area around Tychy is rich in forest and my plan was to go through the forest to Paprocane lake.
The snow was just melting and very slippery. As I did not have my winter tires I had to take another route.

During his journey to Australia Toon (my cycle compagnion from Turkey to Uzbekistan) staid with us for a few days. after a great Journey Toon was robbed in Russia however and returned back to Belgium. More can be read here:
